I am giving up on real proffessionalizm and support on anything that you can purchase.
We were terribly under-informed and somehow missled, which caussed horrible sytuation. This is what happened: travertine tiled floor has been wet grinded and polished. we did not waited for the moisture to escape from the stone and sealed with mortal overdose of water based sealer - stonetech-bulletproof, that we could not clean from the surface - 3500 sq feet area. WE WERE GETTING STICKY FLOOR AND white DUST. One of professionals recommended stripping the floor and sealing over again just with one coat. we did that hoping for dust to dissapear. But after a day or so it came back this time without sticky effect. we stripped entire floor again and told that tiles are soaked with sealers and should be left alone. We did that using commercial cleaning machine that sucked and cleaned entire floor again and happily after two days we saw white dust again. what is happening? How can we get rid of white dust...I thought efflorescence would be sort of solid substance...not dust??? |

Niko:
I really don't know. What I do know is that polished travertine should not be sealed - ever. But hey, maybe it's only me... I have this thing that I believe in science instead of believing some sales pitch. Now, what's the reason of your white powdering? With all the chemical mess you made on your floor only a wizard could tell. Sorry. I truly wish I could help you, even by suggesting some of my products' but I wouldn't know where to start from. But hey, I'm sure that the good folks that sold the stone to you and highly recommended to seal it to death will have an answer for you. Maybe the experts at the company making the impregnator will be able to help you, too. (Just don't hold you breath for too long a time...)

Is this a Turkey Travertine? Makes a differnce.
Assuming it is here is what I have found to be a great solution. This will bring tears to some Pro's eyes, but the results cannot be denied. Have that floor honed. Start with a 8o grit and work upto 400grit. Scrub and clean with Hillyards SuperShineall and be sure to follow thier directions. You will need a wet vac to pick dirt and water. Mopping will not get it clean enough. Apply 4-5 coats Hillyards # 341 per their instructions. You will have a beautiful shiney floor that will need no maintenance for years. This the same finish put on most Terrazzo floors. |

This the same finish put on most Terrazzo floors.
And that makes terrazzo floors look like plastic.
Good advice: use a hig-speed floor finish in a residentail floor, make it look like plastic, probably not solving the problem of the white powdering anyway, and then have the homeowner buy a high-speed burnisher to mantain their floor... I don't know...
Oh, and I almost forgot: seal that sucker over and over again and don't forget the goat!! |

They can be finished like a marble floor.
You can leave them honed (they way they are delivered by the terrazzo folks) or you can go on and actually polish them the same way you polish a marble floor. After all, a terrazzo floor is a marble floor. |
